(Dedicated with love to Mrs. Susan Smith, with whom Cassie always knew she could be herself. -- ed.)
I wish
I didn't have to write this form poem
This poem that so many people
Have written before.
I wish
That periods one through eight
Didn't have to write the same as me.
I wish
A packet didn't try to dictate
The type of writing
I choose to create.
I wish
That I could write a poem
That no one could ever duplicate
Or even try to simulate.
I wish
My poem would be terrific
And different
And great.
